Amazon invests further in aircraft

The e-commerce specialist Amazon has announced the purchase of 11 Boeing 767-300 aircraft.

The number will comprise seven from Delta Air Lines, with a further four from Canadian carrier WestJet. The first of the new aircraft are slated to join Amazon Air within the next 12 months.

Reasons behind the investment are not difficult to fathom: COVID-19 has led to a surge in online commerce and consumer expectation in terms of delivery time has been steadily enhanced. Free shipping is another determining factor, says Amazon.

Launched by the company in 2016, Amazon Air appears to be going from strength to strength and the Westjet conversions are currently underway. It is understood that third party carriers will be utilised to operate the new aircraft.
