Atlas Air to add three B747-8Fs to fleet

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings will add three Boeing 747-8 Freighters to its fleet to meet demand for widebody freighter capacity.

The aircraft have been secured through long-term finance agreements with BOC Aviation and are expected to enter service late in the third quarter of this year.

Michael Steen, CEO of Atlas Air Worldwide says expanding the fleet with three B747-8Fs follows the acquisition of four B747-400Fs, which were placed under long-term agreements with customers earlier this year.

He says, “Demand remains strong for dedicated large widebody freighters, and with our robust pipeline, we will place these planes with customers under attractive long-term agreements. Through our ongoing investments in innovation and our fleet, we continue to create additional operational flexibility, providing world-class service and acting as a trusted partner to our customers.”

Steven Townend, CEO and Managing Director of BOC Aviation, says, “Atlas manages the world’s largest fleet of Boeing 747 freighter aircraft and is ideally placed to partner with us in the operation of these latest generation aircraft. As global airfreight volumes hit record highs this transaction highlights our ability to provide capacity solutions to a wide variety of airline customers.”
