CPSL opens Pharma Handling Terminal

Cathay Pacific Services Limited (CPSL) has opened the Pharma Handling Centre at the Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal.

The 1,250 square-metre facility is dedicated to the handling of pharmaceutical products and has several features to ensure that they are handled properly.

It has Real Time Temperature Monitoring, a web-based monitoring system facilitating real-time temperature and humidity management, ensuring all handling is under the controlled ambient temperature of between 15 and 25C.

A Temperature Controlled Dock Shelter includes truck docks with inflatable shelters for virtually airtight sealing for vehicles, maintaining optimal temperature during acceptance and delivery.

Multiple charging points utilise a suspended mobile power system including 45 movable charging points in the staging area to charge active containers.

To improve sustainability, the Pharma Handling Centre uses non-ozone depleting HFC refrigerants and has been built with 420 high-thermal insulation panels and inflatable dock shelters.

The Pharma Handling Centre has been built to IATA CEIV Pharma standards and can process 235,000 tonnes of pharma per year, doubling the existing cold storage area and capacity.

Mark Watts, Chief Operating Officer of CPSL, says, “Our investment in the new Pharma Handling Centre demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring that we can provide fast and dependable handling for the growing pharma market for many years to come.”

Tom Owen, Chairman of CPSL, adds, “This supports CPSL’s vision to become the world’s most customer-centric air cargo terminal operator and further strengthens the status of Hong Kong as a leading international aviation hub for temperature-controlled shipments.”
