EFW signs conversion partnership with MRO Japan

Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW) and MRO Japan have entered a partnership to carry out passenger-to-freighter conversions for narrowbody Airbus aircraft in Japan.

The contract was signed at the first Airbus and EFW P2F Symposium Japan, building on the memorandum of understanding that the two parties signed in April this year.

MRO Japan will serve as a subcontractor for EFW to provide third-party Airbus A320/A321 conversions.

Onboarding MRO Japan as EFW’s new modification site involves training in tooling, engineering, supply chain, industrialisation and quality to ensure operational readiness and excellence.

The first aircraft is expected to be inducted by the end of 2025.

Jordi Boto, CEO of EFW, says, “We are excited to have MRO Japan join our global network of P2F conversion sites. Collaborating with experienced and well backed aircraft solution providers like MJP supports our capacity for freighter conversions to capture opportunities in the growing Japanese air cargo market.”

Takashi Takahashi, CEO of MRO Japan, adds, “We are truly happy that the new partnership between EFW and MRO Japan has been established. It will be a significant step towards mutual growth and prosperity for both parties. Our deepest gratitude goes to EFW for their cooperation and support. We are excited to work with the EFW team to initiate the first modification and move on to the next step.”
