Jettainer makes lightweight pallet nets available

Sustainability ULDs
Jettainer is making environmentally-friendly Pallet Net Zero net from AmSafe Bridport available to customers.

The nets are made out of sustainable bio-based materials and are 60% lighter than conventional polyester options, making them the lightest nets on the market.

Pallet Net Zero nets are made out of an innovative bio-based fibre and weigh 9-11 kilograms, compared to 17-24 kilograms for traditional polyester nets.

The nets are certified for a 5 year service life and Jettainer, AmSafe Bridport and their airline customers are working on ideas to give old nets a second life.

Lufthansa Cargo is the first customer to use the new nets with Jettainer making around 2,000 nets available, which will be used for PAJ pallets.

Dietmar Focke, Chief Operations Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer at Lufthansa Cargo, says, “With the lightweight Pallet Net Zero, we are taking another important step towards decarbonising freight transport. In addition, we expect considerable weight savings to make handling easier and safer for our employees and ground staff.”

To test quality, Jettainer put the nets through the acid test at the Institute of Textile Research Saxony and will conduct further stress tests together with Lufthansa Cargo to develop and improve the product.

Thomas Sonntag, Managing Director of Jettainer, says, “Sustainability is playing an increasingly important role throughout the entire industry. Our efficient ULD management services, the use of lightweight containers and innovative lightweight elements like squAIR-timber already offer our customers ways to reduce weight and their CO2 footprint. The use of Pallet Net Zero gives our customers yet another way to make their cargo flights more fuel-efficient and sustainable.”
