Services to and from Lyon were originally meant to be a summer passenger service but due to the Covid pandemic, it was transformed into a cargo gateway.
Four times a week, passenger-to-cargo conversions and freighters connect Lyon with Doha for links across Asia, the Far East and Oceania, and westbound to the Americas via Liege and Luxembourg.
Products from Lyon and its catchment area covering Nice and Marseille include Covid-related pharma and medical supplies, high-tech products and general cargo.
Matthias Lepeut, Senior Regional Manager Cargo South Europe at Qatar Airways Cargo says: “Despite the competition increasingly returning to Lyon, our loyal customers enabled us to celebrate our first anniversary milestone by doing what no other airline has achieved so far: namely operate both a full-freighter and passenger-freighter together that same day, and generate positive bottom line results as well as full customer satisfaction.”
