Stadtbau hands over LEJ Campus keys to DHL

DHL has been handed the keys to the LEJ Campus, setting a milestone for the development of its air cargo hub at Leipzig/Halle Airport.

The keys were handed over by Stadtbau after a 2-year construction phase in the presence of Michael Kretschmer, Minister President of Saxony.

Located at Josef von Copertino Strasse 2-8, it is close to the DHL hub in Leipzig and consists of 5 multi-storey buildings.

It has space for 1,100 employees on a gross floor area of 34,000 square metres with office workstations for the previously decentralised DHL units Network Operations and Customs and AeroLogic, the joint venture airline between DHL and Lufthansa Cargo.

Calling the campus a significant step for the economic development of Leipzig, Saxony and central Germany, Kretschmer says, “This innovative project underscores our region as a leading location for modern logistics and sustainable growth. I am proud of the partnership between Stadtbau AG and DHL, which not only creates state-of-the-art jobs, but also supports long-term sustainability goals through pioneering environmental and climate initiatives.”

Patrik Fahrenkamp, CEO of Leipziger Stadtbau emphasised sustainability, saying, “For us as initiators of the LEJ CAMPUS, environmental and climate-friendliness were central goals from the very beginning. The newly constructed building complex generates almost three quarters of its electrical energy needs itself - through photovoltaics, but also through a combined heat and power plant that supplies the campus with heat. It runs on biogas but can also be converted to hydrogen.”

Stadtbau paid attention to designing the parking garage façade along the B6 federal highway, which is equipped with differently coloured vertically arranged solar panels creating a wave pattern.

It has 600 parking spaces, of which 1 in 5 are equipped with an e-charging station.

Tobias Meyer, CEO of DHL Group, says, “In the development of the LEJ CAMPUS, our focus from the beginning was on the well-being of the employees and the sustainability of the buildings. Stadtbau AG has optimally implemented these goals on our behalf with future-oriented technologies and modern office space that also offers opportunities for exercise, regeneration and privacy.”
