American Airlines cuts waste with BioNatur Plastic

American Airlines Cargo has started using BioNatur Plastic from M&G Packaging, cutting its plastic waste by the equivalent of 6.4 million plastic bottles.

BioNatur Plastics is a growing line of biodegradable plastic products manufactured with proprietary formulations making them the most sustainable plastic option available.

It is biodegradable under landfill conditions in 5 to 10 years, the end products are fully recyclable in normal waste collection services and with added strength, less plastic needs to be used.

American started using BioNatur Plastics in early 2022 and is using it in Dallas/Fort Worth, New York JFK, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago O’Hare, Philadelphia and Phoenix Sky Harbor, and the airline plans to use the product at more airports.

Greg Schwendinger, President of American Airlines Cargo, says, “American Airlines Cargo is excited to make our cargo operations more sustainable with the adoption of biodegradable plastic products from BioNatur. Replacing our cargo-use plastic products with BioNatur Plastics drastically reduces the waste we leave behind and is an important step in our airline goal toward a more sustainability future.”
