More than 750 million Covid-19 vaccines have been shipped via Brussels Airport since the first vaccine flight took off on 27 November 2020.

Of the 750 million vaccines, more than 500 million were for export and 200 million for import, and Brussels Airport has also worked as a transfer hub for flight from Asia to destinations in Africa and South America for the Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines.

Brussels Airport has more than 35,000 square metres of temperature-controlled warehousing specifically for pharmaceutical products and the largest number of pharma-certified companies under the IATA CEIV Pharma programme.

Partners in the cargo department prepared themselves in the BRUcare Taskforce for all possible scenarios and requirements for transporting vaccines before the first flight left from Brussels to the US last November and as vaccines have continued to fly.

Flights carrying Covid-19 vaccines operate daily from Brussels, transporting vaccines produced by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.

Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport Company says: “Thanks to our many years of experience and on-going investments in the handling and shipment of pharmaceuticals, we are able, together with our partners, to support the vaccination programmes worldwide.”
