DHL Express doubles capacity at Americas Hub

DHL Express has spent $78m doubling capacity at its Americas Hub at Miami International Airport.

The investment is part of a $360m plan for the region to increase volume capacity across the DHL Express Americas network by nearly 30% by the end of 2022.

It includes a new automated package sort system, doubling sorting capacity per hour.

Warehouse space has doubled to 206,000 square feet and has twice the load positions for conveyable packages.

Two Automated Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy Machines have been installed to provide 3D CT images and detect explosives to increase safety and security.

Congratulating DHL on the expansion, Miami-Dade County Mayor, Daniella Levine Cava says: “Its growth has helped to put our airport on track for its best year ever in cargo shipments, and is bringing an infusion of hundreds of new jobs into our local economy.”

Eight new flights have been added and on average, DHL Express operates 193 arrivals and departures a week at the Miami hub.

At the Miami hub, DHL Express has in-house Customs brokers and there are US Customs and Border Protection personnel working on site to facilitate faster shipment clearance.
