Smiths Detection and DHL deploy image processing in Australia

Smiths Detection has deployed a fully operational multi-site central image processing and management solution for DHL Express Australia.

The solution connects Smiths Detection’s HI-SCAN 10080 EDX-2is automatic explosive detection scanners in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane into one intelligent network allowing X-ray images to be analysed at a central location and provides consolidated data analytics and insights.

The centralised screening will enable DHL Express Australia to optimise staff rostering and significantly increase utilisation of security operators while reducing overall operational expenditure.

Ajay Sankaran, Managing Director of Australia and Sales Director South Asia at Smiths Detection, says initiatives have improved efficiency through major reductions in X-ray operator hours, decision times and the risk of insider threats due to separating the screener from the freight.

He says, “Remote screening and the use of a central management system provides the user with operational data from across the screening process, generating invaluable insights while making it easier to screen for threats and monitor overall performance. The platform can also be easily expanded to include more security screening equipment.”
