Swissport provides Lufthansa with cargo services in Nairobi

Swissport and Lufthansa have extended their long-standing partnership in Nairobi to cover cargo handling and warehousing services.

For more than 11 years, Swissport has been providing Lufthansa with ramp handling and check-in and gate services at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The contract extension covers cargo handling and warehousing service for Lufthansa Cargo, which operates flights between Nairobi and its hub in Frankfurt.

Racheal Ndegwa, Managing Director of Swissport Kenya, said: “We are pleased to extend our partnership with the Lufthansa Group and to serve one of the globally leading cargo airlines at Nairobi International airport. Air cargo handling and warehousing are crucial components of our business, and we are proud to match the needs of Lufthansa Cargo with our operational readiness and world-class facilities here in Nairobi.”

Swissport’s Nairobi cargo centre offers 10,400 square metres of space for handling general cargo as well as perishables and temperature-sensitive goods including pharmaceuticals.

The facility includes a IATA CEIV Pharma certified Swissport Pharma Center and is also CEIV Fresh-certified to safely handle exports of fruit, vegetables and flowers.

Dirk Goovaerts, Managing Director Continental Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Global Cargo Chair at Swissport International, said: “Nairobi is an important travel and logistics hub for many airlines, and we are thrilled to extend our partnership with the Lufthansa Group. Our investments in the facilities, in professional and skilled teams, and our willingness to support our clients’ most ambitious requests drive our success in Nairobi.”
