WFS welcomes SriLankan to new CenterPoint terminal

Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has welcomed SriLankan Airlines as the first customer to its CenterPoint cargo terminal at London Heathrow Airport.

The handling agent was awarded a 32-month contract to provide cargo handling and airside transport for Airbus A330-300 flights between London and Colombo.

SriLankan operates weekly services but is expected to increase frequencies, and prior to the pandemic, the airline carried 9,500 tonnes of cargo annually between the UK and Sri Lanka.

The CenterPoint facility opened this summer, with WFS providing an off-airport cargo handling operation to complement its longstanding presence at Heathrow’s World Cargocentre.

It has a mezzanine floor suitable for handling e-commerce, mail and courier shipments in addition to 30,000 square feet of ground floor space.

Paul Carmody, Managing Director – UK Cargo for WFS says: “The addition of CenterPoint, alongside our on-airport cargo terminals at Heathrow, means WFS is especially well-placed to support our current and new airline clients as their cargo volumes grow back to 2019 levels.”
