Amazon Air's new regional hub

Amazon revealed plans earlier this week that will see it open a regional air hub at Alliance airport, Texas.

This initiative is expected to create several hundred jobs in the region and the company's press release speaks of a regional hub that would include a brand new facility that would be built to suit Amazon Air’s requirements.

Construction is, in fact, already underway, and a high degree of tailoring in the project is expected, in line with the retailer's particular business model. Features such as a sortation capability and infrastructure to handle multiple flights daily are part of the plan. To this end, the existing 72,000 square foot facility will be swelled by an additional 120,000 square feet. The project is expected to cost around US$11m and, according to reports, the new hub is expected to be up and running in 2019.
