Amazon to open new fulfillment centres

Two new Amazon fulfillment centres are to be built in Ohio.

Amazon continues to illustrate to the marketplace that it is a force to be reckoned with. Ohio's latest fulfillment centres will be sited at Akron and in Rossford, near Toledo. The pair of distribution centres are expected to create more than 2,500 full-time jobs between them, of which 1,500 will be based in Akron.

Each fulfillment centre will comprise more than 700,000 square feet of operating area, and be dedicated to packing and shipping smaller items from its extensive portfolio.

According to sources, Amazon already employs 8,500 Ohio staff across another eight centres in the region. The cost of this project is put at US$1.3m but the online retailer has not yet announced when the facilities will be open for business.
