Avianca Cargo announces promotion of Diogo Elias to CEO

Bogotá-headquartered Avianca Cargo has named Diogo Elias as its new CEO. He joined the company three years ago and has been promoted from his position as Senior Vice President.

In a post on LinkedIn, Avianca Cargo credited Elias with “important achievements” that have cemented its place among the world’s top cargo airlines.

The company said: “His management and leadership has allowed us to make significant progress in the consolidation of a consistent service portfolio, the expansion of the network and the growth of strategic markets such as the United States, in which we obtained the historical record of direct connections from Miami, with 25 destinations.”

In his new role, Elias will be responsible for Avianca cargo’s future growth and innovation strategy, driving key initiatives such as fleet expansion, and strengthening the airline’s operational network, commitment to digitalisation and new market development.

Earlier in his career, Elias held senior roles at LATAM Airlines over nearly nine years, including three years as Managing Director of the carrier’s cargo business.

Avianca Cargo is based out of three South American hubs in San Salvador, Lima and Bogotá. It also has Americas operation centres in Miami, Medellín, Quito and Mexico City.
