Announcing the deal at air cargo Europe 2025, part of the transport logistic trade fair in Munich, Germany, the agreement will see ECS Livestock carry out operations at the airport’s AnimalPort Netherlands facility.
The facility was modernised last year and is equipped with amenities such as a dressing room, hygiene lock and washing stations.
It can accommodate between 26 and 32 horses and features a flexible floor system to give animals sufficient grip.
Dean Boljuncic, Head of Commercial Development at Maastricht Aachen Airport said: “Handling horses is an international mark of quality for our airport. If you can handle live animals safely and efficiently, it proves the high standards of your cargo operations.”
ECS Livestock has over 23 years of experience in transporting horses and both parties expect that the partnership will increase the number of horses travelling via Maastricht Aachen Airport.
Edwin Hofstede, Director of ECS Livestock said: “Together with the airport, we are exploring the possibility of further expanding the capacity by reconfiguring the layout, to improve flexibility and optimise the use of the AnimalPort in the future.”
