FedEx and Direct Relief fly aid for Ukraine

FedEx Express and Direct Relief have transported 52 tons of medical aid to Poland for victims of the war in Ukraine.

The Boeing 777 Freighter flight landed in Poland yesterday (Sunday 26 June) carrying medicines and supplies including health kits, trauma and wound care items, chronic disease and chemical exposure medications, and antibiotics.

It was the second aid flight FedEx Express and Direct Relief operated, with the first one landing in Poland on Sunday 27 March.

The items were requested and approved by Ukraine’s Ministry of Health and local Ukrainian organisations.

Direct Relief staff were on site to offload the cargo and will distribute the aid to health facilities in Ukraine.

Thomas Tighe, President and CEO of Direct Relief, says, “In addition to the heart-breaking loss of life and human toll, the war has had a devastating impact on health services in the country, and Direct Relief is committed to bolstering care with a continuous supply of medical aid. FedEx has created a powerful force multiplier for good with this most recent charter, and it’s an incredible example of what’s needed to address this crisis.”

Since war broke out, Direct Relief has provided more than 750 tons of medical aid, from medic packs to diabetes and cancer medication, in response to the crisis.

Karen Reddington, Regional President of Europe at FedEx Express, says, “It is gratifying to be able use our global network to support these critical missions, and with this charter flight we hope to make a small contribution to what is still a major humanitarian situation.”
