The Pharma Control Tower was launched at the end of April with a team of experts monitoring temperature-sensitive shipments via Lufthansa Cargo’s hubs in Frankfurt, Munich and Brussels.
Customers can use the control tower to enquire about shipments to and from Lufthansa Cargo’s CEIV-certified stations, benefiting from a central point of contact for quick feedback and increased response time for both the Active Temp Control and Passive Temp Control services.
Special thermal covers are being used for Passive Temp Support shipments to provide additional protection against heat and cold.
The service is available free of charge and will be used on airfreight pallets in the main and lower decks during the summer months on routes between Frankfurt and Atlanta, Cairo, Chicago and Toronto.
Lufthansa Cargo is looking to offer the service at other destinations and beyond the summer months.
smartULD can be booked with the Active Temp Control product for certain container types and offers a digital solution for tracking temperature-sensitive shipments in real time.
Sensors in the container record temperature data to create a complete temperature profile from delivery to pickup.
The information is available on the Lufthansa Cargo website under the eService menu in the Track section.
Passive Temp Support can be booked with td.Zoom, offering maximum transport speed for temperature-sensitive products, providing priority access to capacity and the shortest transit times without weight restrictions.
Lufthansa Cargo says it will make targeted improvements in the coming months.
In the future, customers will be able to view container temperature data at selected stations via the website and the temperature-controlled truck network will be adapted to customer requirements.
