Ufku Akaltan leads UPS in UK, Ireland, Nordics and India

UPS has appointed Ufku Akaltan to the role of President UK, Ireland, Nordics and India.

In his role, Akaltan will lead operations and growth strategies across the districts and a key responsibility will be deploying UPS’s global smart logistics network to strengthen the UK – India trade lane.

Akaltan joined UPS as an intern in 2002 and worked his way up with roles including Country Manager for UPS Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, President for UPS Eastern Europe and President of Growth and Emerging Markets, Indian Subcontinent, Middle East and Africa.

Commenting on his new role, Akaltan says, “We are strategically investing in our capabilities to expand our offering to our customers, from opening smart sortation facilities, to innovating in the last mile to foster growth and reduce our carbon output.”

Focusing on links between the UK and India, Akaltan says, “Our global network is uniquely positioned to support the UK to India trade lane with our dedicated teams and strategic initiatives, we are not just delivering packages, we are shaping the future of logistics.”

In the UK, UPS opened a new sortation and delivery centre in Telford earlier this year and is working with Aurrigo on a pilot initiative exploring the prospect of deploying autonomous electric cargo vehicles at East Midlands Airport.

In India, UPS has doubled capacity with the opening of a second airport gateway in Bengaluru, investing $20 million in a smart technology centre in Chennai.

MOVIN Express, which serves India’s domestic logistics market, expanded to 49 cities within its first year and UPS Premier was launched to provide advanced healthcare technology services, offering greater control and visibility in customer supply chains.
