Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru has set a record for monthly throughput, handling 37,319 tonnes in August.

Of that, 24,304 tonnes were international cargo, with exports proving strong at 15,224 tonnes, helping send tonnage to its highest levels since operations started in 2008.

On average, Bengaluru handles 30 freighter movements a day, in addition to passenger services with bellyhold capacity.

The airport has annual capacity of 715,000 tonnes a year, expandable up to 850,000 tonnes with the aim of expanding infrastructure to handle one million tonnes in the next few years.
