ACS helps with record-breaking rhino conservation flight

Air Charter Service (ACS) has transported 39 white rhinoceroses from Namibia to the USA, the highest number flown in one flight.

The white rhinos were travelling to Dallas for three breeding programmes to aid their unique genetics and preserve it from the threat of poaching.

Loading the 39 rhinos, who had a combined weight of 80 tons, required an intricate load plan.

They flew from Windhoek to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, with a fuel stop in Sal, Cape Verde due to the rhinos combined weight, and they were unloaded under supervision of the US Fish and Wildlife Service before continuing their journey.

Lyndee du Toit, CEO of ACS Africa, says, “It is the largest translocation of rhino ever undertaken and required many months of careful planning, working in close collaboration with the conservation and relocation company and the airline.”
