Air Canada Cargo adds Halifax to freighter network

Air Canada Cargo has operated its first freighter flight to Halifax, connecting Nova Scotia to its global network.

The Boeing 767-300 flew from Toronto Pearson International Airport to Halifax Stanfield International Airport yesterday (Wednesday 20 April) where it was loaded with fresh lobster, fish, aerospace parts and pharmaceuticals bound for Toronto to be shipped to their final destinations.

It is Air Canada’s second 767-300F, which will provide connections to global destinations including Frankfurt, Cologne, Istanbul and Madrid.

Air Canada is operating five flights a week from Toronto to Halifax and from May it will operate three a week to Madrid, two a week to Frankfurt and weekly flights to Cologne and Istanbul.

Jason Berry, Vice President – Cargo at Air Canada says: “Atlantic Canada's economy has experienced important growth in the last few years, with increased demand from North America, Europe, and beyond. Nova Scotia is a key element of our growth strategy and Halifax being one of our first Canadian markets with the freighters further emphasises the importance we place on our partnerships in the community.”

Joyce Carter, President and CEO of Halifax International Airport Authority says: “This exciting Air Canada Cargo expansion will increase capacity at Halifax Stanfield, providing Nova Scotia businesses and industries with more opportunities to ship their products efficiently by air. We are thrilled with Air Canada's continued investment in Halifax and look forward to their future growth to meet the needs of communities across the region.”
