American Airlines moves into new Heathrow facility

American Airlines Cargo has moved into a new facility at Heathrow Airport, providing more space and flexibility.

The new facility, adjacent to its two former buildings, combines operations into one larger footprint for imports and exports.

It offers more space and flexibility for the airline and its cargo handling partner, Worldwide Flight Services.

The building covers 120,000 square feet, 15,000 square feet more than the old facilities, and nearly doubles the capacity for PMC pallet storage.

Landside and airside doors, X-Ray machines and build stations increase storage and enable faster acceptance, delivery, build-up and break-down services.

American Airlines has also updated how it transmits operational updates digitally with WFS with a new digital connection between WFS’s Cargospot and American’s iCargo platforms.

Sam Mendenhall, VP of Operations at American Airlines Cargo, says, “We are confident that the move to a larger, more uniform cargo facility, coupled with the technology enhancements with WFS, will unlock operational efficiencies and ultimately provide a better experience for our customers who ship in and out of Heathrow.”
