The AutoCargo is Aurrigo’s largest vehicle to date, which is capable of carrying 16.5 tonnes of cargo.
It has an electric drive with twin 18.4kW motors and four-wheel steering, and algorithms developed in-house means it can operate in extreme weather conditions in excess of 50mm of rain per hour.
The AutoCargo has a top speed of 25kmh and can run up to eight hours on a single charge.
Aurrigo revealed the AutoCargo at its Coventry headquarters yesterday (Wednesday 2 April) in front of representatives from Aurrigo, UPS, other partners and the Lord Mayor of Coventry.
David Keene, CEO of Aurrigo, says, “This latest launch is another milestone moment for our business and extends our footprint in the aviation sector. Working with UPS, we have designed and developed an autonomous vehicle that can transport a standard cargo pallet or two ULDs with a 4500kg onboard capacity and the option of towing an additional 12,000kg trailer.”
Development was backed with funding from Innovate UK and Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV).
Sarah Jones, Minister for Industry and Decarbonisation, says, “By working in partnership with industry, we want to drive forward innovation and propel the development of next generation zero emission and automated vehicle technologies.”
It builds on the success of the Auto-DollyTug, which transports passenger luggage.
