With its own fleet of five A330-200 cargo aircraft, the company intends to offer its customers an extended network in Europe. The direct flights to Brussels, with its central location, make it easy to connect cargo to the flower auction in Aalsmeer, the main operation and consolidation centre in the continent for the flower industry, while the increased connectivity for pharmaceuticals, automotive and other commodities offers additional capacity from Europe region to Colombia and the rest of South America via Miami.
Gerardo Grajales, Executive Vice President of Business Units, said: “The main purpose of this operation is to continue supporting the expansion of the flower industry and other perishable products in Latin America, as well as to offer a cargo transportation service to our customers in Europe and Asia to Latin America."
“South America is still an underserved market to and from Brussels,” says Steven Polmans, Head of Cargo and Logistics at Brussels airport. “We are really pleased to welcome Avianca Cargo and the opportunity we can offer to our market with increased connectivity and capacity for pharmaceuticals, automotive and other commodities from our region to Miami, Colombia and the rest of South America."
