Bolloré and United purchase 3m litres of SAF

Bolloré Logistics and United Airlines have signed a deal to purchase 3 million litres of sustainable aviation fuel for 2022.

The agreement covers all the routes operated by Bolloré and will enable it to reduce scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by at least 6,500 tonnes of CO2.

Purchasing the fuel provided by United Airlines is in conjunction with the AIRsaf service launched by Bolloré Logistics in July 2021.

The offer includes an end-to-end solution with environmentally responsible pre- and post-carriage procedures, and reusable transport packaging.

Philippe de Crécy, Vice President Airfreight Europe at Bolloré Logistics, says that, due to global warming and the need to decarbonise air transport, customers have specific expectations about managing their supply chains.

He says, “They now want to adopt eco-responsible solutions in line with their commitments. We were among the first to make this shift. With our partner United Airlines, we will continue developing our offer to achieve our scope 3 CO2 reduction targets.”

Jan Krems, President of United Cargo, adds that the airline’s goal is to reduce 100% of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 without relying on traditional carbon offsets.

He says, “Achieving this goal isn’t possible without working with partners to put sustainability at the forefront of our cargo business. We’re grateful to work with Bolloré Logistics on this commitment, and we are looking forward to creating a more sustainable air freight industry together.”
