The pharma dolly, unveiled by Brussels airport in 2016, was an important development in the pursuit of the unbroken cold chain and in keeping sensitive freight at a constant temperature throughout its journey – in particular, the time elapsed between removal from the warehouse and loading into the aircraft hold.
The airport said that expanding the fleet of pharma transporters was crucial “to meet the rising demand from shippers and airlines.”
The five new APTs are of the latest generation and feature some new capabilities, such as variable temperature settings and automated temperature reporting. The new units also use a more traditional energy efficient cooling, powered by solar energy, to operate autonomously for several days. This allows for energy-neutral, temperature-controlled transport at the airport.
