The Birmingham Airport facility triples handling capabilities and is projected to reduce road transport by up to 50,000 miles a year as cargo does not have to travel to Carousel’s Coventry site before making onward journeys.
Opening the facility means goods are shipped and sorted directly from the airport to their final destination.
Andrew Lowery, UK Managing Director at Carousel Logistics says the Birmingham Airport facility means the company can handle greater volumes within the same time window.
He says, “Strategically located near the M42 and M6 motorways, Birmingham International station, new HS2 links, and our electric rail freight partner Varamis Rail, this investment will dramatically improve line haul times and cut carbon emissions.”
Carousel has also invested in lower emission equipment at Birmingham Airport including electric forklifts and belt loaders, ground power units run on HVO instead of diesel and a fleet of electric vans.
