CDB Aviation orders 12 more A330-300s from EFW

CDB Aviation has committed to twelve more Airbus A330 Passenger-to-Freighter (P2F) conversions from Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW), introducing the model in China.

The deal, which was signed at the Singapore Air Show, will bring CDB’s fleet of A330P2Fs to 14 and introduce it to the Chinese market through deals with Sichuan Airlines and Jiangxi Cargo Airlines.

Chengdu-based Sichuan Airlines has leased two to join its existing fleet of three A330-200P2Fs when they are delivered in late 2022 and early 2023.

Nanchang-based start-up airline, Jiangxi Cargo Airlines, a joint venture between the Jiangxi Provincial Government and privately-owned Hongyuan Group, has leased one A330-300P2F to be delivered in early 2023.

This year, CDB Aviation will expand its conversion footprint by becoming the first customer for A330 conversions to take place at ST Engineering’s facility in Shanghai and VT MAE in Mobile, Alabama.

They add to EFW’s facility in Dresden and ST Engineering facility in Singapore, and by the middle of 2022, CDB plans to have aircraft converted simultaneously in Dresden, Shanghai and Mobile.

Patrick Hannigan, CEO of CDB Aviation says: “The A330 P2F continues to gain traction as the preferred next-generation type in the fast-growing Medium Widebody Freighter space. It is delivering to cargo operators the most advanced fly-by-wire technology, increased volumetric capacity for today’s less dense freight, reduced fuel consumption, a lower environmental footprint, and the benefits of Airbus fleet commonality.”

Peter Goodman, Chief Marketing Officer of CDB Aviation adds: “We’re delighted to welcome Sichuan Airlines and Jiangxi Cargo Airlines to our growing list of A330-300 P2F operators, marking the type’s first application in China. We know the aircraft will be a superb addition to both these carriers as they grow their business to serve the country’s rapidly expanding air cargo demand.”
