Construction starts at dnata Cargo City Amsterdam

Work has started at dnata Cargo City Amsterdam with a pile driver triggered by the pressing of a button marking the start of construction.

The facility, building 17 at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, is located on the Schiphol-Southeast cargo area, which is being developed by Schiphol Commercial Real Estate for its tenant, dnata.

Expected to be ready in the summer of 2024, the building will consist of 61,000m2 of commercial space, including 6,700m2 of office space, and have an annual cargo handling capacity of 850,000 tonnes.

The building was designed by architects, DP6, and construction work will be carried out by De Vries and Verburg Bouw.

Sustainability is important for the new building, of which at least 50% will be constructed from recycled material, the cargo warehouse has a partly wooden supporting structure and the “Eagles Nest” containing the control room, catering facilities, meeting room and storage will be made almost entirely of wood, solar panels on the roof, connection to a hot and cold storage system, and the cargo building will be entirely demountable.

Cargo Building 5/6 at Schiphol South is dnata’s current home but this will be demolished in 2024 in order to complete the second phase of expanding the Quebec taxiway.
