The Boeing 777 Freighter service left Ezhou Huahu International Airport yesterday (Tuesday 7 January) and arrived at Frankfurt Airport today (Wednesday 8 January), travelling via Abu Dhabi International Airport.
Delegates from DB Schenker, Ezhou Municipal People’s Government and the Ezhou Civil Aviation Administration attended the launch ceremony in Ezhou.
The service will be operated on Tuesdays by Etihad Cargo, stopping in Abu Dhabi on its way to Frankfurt.
It is expected to handle around 5,200 tons of cargo per year carrying goods including e-commerce, high-tech, electronics, industrial goods, consumer and retail products, and automotive parts.
Ramon He, Senior Vice President and Head of Air Freight at DB Schenker Greater China, says, “Ezhou Huahu International Airport not only boasts advanced infrastructure and efficient operational systems but also serves as strategic node advantages in connecting international industrial and supply chains.”
Stanislas Brun, Vice President Cargo at Etihad Cargo, says, “By leveraging Ezhou Huahu International Airport’s strategic location and Etihad Cargo’s extensive network and operational expertise, we provide the reliability and flexibility required for successful global logistics.”
Since its inauguration as the first dedicated cargo hub in Asia in July 2022, Ezhou Huahu International Airport has posted strong growth with 30 international and 53 domestic cargo routes.
In 2024, Ezhou was China’s fastest growing airport, ranking fifth in the country with 1.2 million tons of cargo.
The airport is located 75 kilometres from Wuhan and is 1.5 hours away by air from urban areas including the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta regions.
The three main railway lines, seven highways and five deep-water ports near the airport make the region an important logistics hub.
