DHL Express opens Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta hub

DHL Express has opened its Americas region hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which will provide connections between the US and key global markets.

The hub was opened with local dignitaries including the Mayor of Atlanta, Andre Dickens in attendance, opening the 100,000 square-foot hub which has direct connections between 19 cities in the southeast US and key global markets across Europe and major DHL hubs worldwide.

It sets new standards for sustainability, generating up to 50% of its on-site energy consumption through 65,000 square-feet of rooftop solar panels, preventing the release of 380 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.

The remaining energy is sourced from renewable sources through Renewable Energy Certificates to guarantee zero emissions.

Environmentally conscious features of the hub include LED lights, electric forklifts, dock seals and rapid rise doors.

Mike Parra, CEO of DHL Express Americas, says, “By fostering commerce and bridging borders worldwide, this hub not only generates economic growth but also creates job opportunities in Atlanta. We take great pride in contributing to the prosperity of the communities where people live and raise their families.”

The fully automated hub is equipped with cutting edge technology of sorting up to 20,000 pieces per hour and to ensure swift clearance of shipments, the hub employs in-house Customs brokers and collaborates with on-site US Customs and Border Protection personnel.

DHL has also implemented advanced threat detection and security screening technology to prevent the entry of illegal and hazardous commodities into its network.
