DHL Express quadruples footprint in Bengaluru

DHL Express has opened its €22m Bengaluru Gateway at Kempegowda International Airport as India’s trade grows due to the e-commerce sector.

Covering 112,000 square feet, the gateway is more than four times larger than the previous facility and has the capacity to handle over 90,000 tonnes per year.

Each week, the Bengaluru Gateway services 11 intercontinental freighters, 30 international commercial airlines and 70 domestic flights, and an additional six intercontinental freighters will join the fleet in November, bringing the total number of aircraft operating through Bengaluru to 17.

The primary export lanes are North America and Europe with imports mainly coming from Asia Pacific and Europe.

Ken Lee, CEO of DHL Express Asia Pacific says: “The Bengaluru Gateway is part of our €750 million investment to bolster our infrastructure in Asia Pacific and enhance connectivity for countries and businesses. With strong international imports and exports driving the increasing cargo volume in Bengaluru, our new facility supports Bengaluru's strategy to provide capacity of one million tons at its airport in the next few years.”

RS Subramanian, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of DHL Express India adds: “Ten years ago, DHL landed its first freighter in Bengaluru and opened its Gateway at the Kempegowda International Airport. Since then, we have seen the international volumes multiply significantly. Our €22 million investment is testament to the growth potential we see in this market.”
