dnata welcomes 6,500 guests to Brussels Airport animal centre

dnata’s Animal Care and Inspection Centre at Brussels Airport provided safe transport for over 6,500 animals throughout 2023-2024.

The 2,000 square metre facility, which was awarded IATA CEIV Live Animals certification in 2022, handled a variety of animals including over 1,000 dogs, more than half were police dogs heading overseas.

Pet fish are handled regularly with over 4,000 boxes of various species getting imported.

Other animals using the facility include tarantulas and reptiles such lizards, snakes and geckos.

Stef van Binst, Managing Director of dnata Belgium, says, “We are proud to provide globally recognised, safe and reliable live animal handling services at Brussels, consistently delivering best-in-class services to our customers and owners who are naturally anxious of their pet’s wellbeing while travelling. In close cooperation with our partners and authorities, we will continue to invest in our operations and world-class facilities to ensure travel comfort for our animal guests.”

Household pets for export arrive at the facility six to eight hours before departure to have their paperwork reviewed including proof of required vaccinations and to complete an IATA check list and perform security checks.

After the checks have been completed, the pet will be invited to make themselves comfortable with dogs receiving regular walks in the special export garden and cats will be provided with a litter tray while they wait for departure.
