Etihad Cargo launches SecureTech for consumer electronics

Etihad Cargo has launched SecureTech, a dedicated product for transporting high-value electronic devices.

Customers can book SecureTech shipments from 1 March with the new product catering for devices including mobile phones, laptops, tablets and other lithium battery-powered devices.

Products transported using SecureTech are monitored during the build-up and break-down of pallets in secure and controlled storage areas at the origin, during transit and at the destination.

Constant surveillance is provided by security personnel or CCTV systems, ensuring only authorised personnel have access to shipments during transportation.

SecureTech also ensures the safe movement of consumer electronics as lithium batteries are the preferred energy source of many consumer devices and a safety risk if they are not handled properly due to the potential to ignite, explode or go into thermal runaway.

Etihad Cargo has recently been awarded IATA CEIV Lithium Batteries (Li-batt) certification, which extends to personnel who undergo training to ensure lithium batteries are handled safely and all documentation, packaging and labelling is up to standard.

Leonard Rodrigues, Acting Managing Director of Etihad Cargo, says SecureTech was launched due to feedback and demand for a dedicated product for transporting consumer electronics.

He says, “Over the years, Etihad Cargo has developed expertise in handling specialised products, and moving lithium battery-powered devices comes with unique challenges. Etihad Cargo is well-equipped to overcome these challenges thanks to its experience in transporting high-value, fragile, time- and temperature-sensitive, and dangerous goods.”
