GOL and Mercado Livre serve Brazil's e-commerce market

GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes has signed a deal with Mercado Livre to serve Brazil’s growing e-commerce market.

The deal with GOL’s logistics business, GOLLOG, will start in the second half of 2022 and last 10 years using a fleet of six Boeing 737-800BCFs. GOL has the option for six more freighters by 2025.

The Brazilian e-commerce market is worth R$180bn and R$12bn a year is spent on logistics. GOLLOG plans to increase its capacity by 80% during 2023 to increase revenue by $1bn over the next five years.

Paulo Kakinoff, CEO of GOL says: “Our cargo operation begins an exciting new chapter for GOL and GOLLOG, by integrating our synergies as the lowest cost operator in the region with the needs of Mercado Livre, the largest e-commerce platform in Latin America. This partnership brings high added value and will help to democratise logistics services for all Brazilians.”

Fernando Yunes, Senior Vice President of Mercado Livre in Brazil says: “With this partnership, we will increase the number of direct flights from São Paulo to the north and northeast regions, reducing the delivery time by up to 80%. Delivery time to Manaus will be only one day, instead of the current nine days, while to northeast destinations the lead time will decrease from four days to one. Other capitals, such as Goiânia and Cuiabá, will receive their packages the next day.”
