IAG Cargo flies aid to Pakistan following floods

IAG Cargo has donated capacity to transport 34 tonnes of aid to Islamabad following the devastating floods that have affected Pakistan.

The aid, which includes medical support and clothing, has been flown free of charge to Islamabad for onward transportation to the affected areas.

A consignment of over 8 tonnes was transported on Sunday 25 September, the largest single movement so far, carrying aid including non-perishable food, tents, clothing and medical supplies on a flight operated by a specially selected cabin crew team who all have a personal connection to Pakistan.

The aid has been donated by key charity partners, including Football for Peace and Khalsa Aid, and a further 21 tonnes of aid will be flown to Pakistan in the coming weeks.

In addition to the aid supplies, British Airways is redirecting 100% of its on-board collections to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Pakistan appeal, raising over £176,800.

John Cheetham, Chief Commercial Officer of IAG Cargo, says, “The air cargo industry has always played a key role in providing the rapid response humanitarian crises require and I’m pleased that with the support of the teams at IAG Cargo, British Airways, and charities including Khalsa Aid and Football for Peace we’re able to contribute towards the significant relief being given to those in need.”

Carrie Harris, Director of Sustainability at British Airways, adds, “In just four weeks our customers and colleagues have generously helped raise over £176,000 for the DEC’s Pakistan appeal. Our thanks to everyone who has supported so far. We’re continuing to work through all our community investment channels to offer further support where it’s needed.”
