IAG Cargo pushes customers to shred paper air waybills

IAG Cargo is encouraging customers to go paperless by introducing a charge for paper air waybills.

From 3 April, customers who opt for a paper air waybill will be charged £10 where switching to an electronic air waybill (e-AWB) is free of charge.

The e-AWB is has been introduced as part of IAG Cargo’s Destination Digital strategy to digitally transform the business.

Nearly 50% of customers are already using e-AWBs and IAG Cargo is targeting an adoption rate of 100% by the end of this year.

IAG Cargo says more than 7,800 tonnes of paper documents are processed per year, the equivalent of 80 Boeing 747s full of paper, and that e-AWBs not only are the sustainable option but improve service for customers by eliminating the risk of human error.

David Rose, Chief Transformation Officer of IAG Cargo, says, “Our commitment to e-AWB will see IAG Cargo significantly reducing paper usage through the cargo journey as we move to e-AWB usage across our network. E-AWB is the first step of many steps in our ambitious destination digital journey, and we are excited to use the data provided to roll out future digital initiatives that will see us become more sustainable and reliable.”
