IAG Cargo supplies flowers and champagne for Valentine's Day

Perishables Airlines
IAG Cargo has transported over 500 tonnes of flowers and several tonnes of champagne across its network in time for Valentine’s Day.

Flowers were up 23% over 2021 with tulips, roses, carnations and chrysanthemums in high demand.

The champagne was one shipment of eight tonnes flying from London to the Maldives.

In the weeks before the big day, flowers travelled from countries such as Kenya, India, South Africa, the Netherlands, Colombia and Ecuador to destinations across North America and into its hubs in London and Madrid.

The flowers rely on a complex supply chain with IAG Cargo and freight forwarders working to transport them from farms to customer shelves within 72 hours of being cut at temperatures between 0-8C.

Freddie Overton, Regional Commercial Manager for Europe and Africa at IAG Cargo says: “We have some of the best floral facilities in the world to help get Valentine’s flowers to market, looking as fresh as the day they were cut.”
