IAI signs 777 conversion deal with Ascent Aviation

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has signed an agreement with Ascent Aviation Services to carry out Boeing 777-300ER passenger-to-freighter conversions in Marana, Arizona.

Marana Aerospace Solutions, doing business as Ascent Aviation Services, will convert 2 lines, starting work in 2024 and will build 2 new wide-body hangars to support the programme.

IAI has set up conversion sites around the world due to expected demand for widebody freighters such as the Boeing 777-300ER, which can carry up to 100 tons.

IAI’s Aviation Group has completed the first test flight of a Boeing 777-300ERSF and is expecting to receive the STC from CAAI and the FAA this year.

Boaz Levy, President and CEO of IAI, says, “IAI's Conversions and Upgrades Business Line, Aviation Group, underscores the confidence that the company has in Ascent Aviation Services’ ability to set up a conversion site within the required timetable, and next year to carry out the first conversion.”

David Querio, President and CEO of Ascent Aviation Services, adds, “We look forward to getting started on our hangar buildout and bringing dozens of aircraft to Arizona to support the maintenance and modification services required. This long-term collaboration agreement will bring lasting growth to the Tucson aviation community.”
