IATA recognised efforts by the Puerto Rico Life Sciences Air Cargo Community, which has worked with the airport and the Department of Economic Development and Commerce to support logistics providers in achieving IATA CEIV Pharma certification.
The support includes training initiatives for smaller organisations and government subsidies for the accreditation costs.
American Airlines, Prime Air Corp, ETH Cargo, Expeditors, Cesar Castillo, Isla Frio Refrigeration and Ground Motive Dependable Airline Services have all been certified through the initiative.
The CEIV initiative was launched five years ago by Industry University Research Centre (INDUNIV), which is facilitating a second round of accreditations.
Jorge Hernandez, CEO of Aerostar Airport Holdings, which owns and operates San Juan airport, says, “This achievement underscores our collective commitment to advancing Puerto Rico’s reliable and efficient transportation of pharma products.”
Peter Cerda, Regional Vice President The Americas at IATA, adds, “With this certification, SJU and its cold chain partners set a benchmark for reliability and compliance in line with CEIV standards, demonstrating their dedication to safeguarding the quality of life-saving medicines and establishing themselves as trusted partners in pharma logistics.”
The efforts to accredit and educate community members has strengthened Puerto Rico’s life science sector.
The sector will be strengthened further with more members earning CEIV Pharma certification.
