Jettainer and WestJet Cargo extend partnership

WestJet Cargo and Jettainer have extended their ULD management contract and will enhance their partnership as the airline launches freighter services.

The Canadian airline has a fleet of Boeing 737-700s, -800s MAX 8s and 787-9s, and has entered the freighter market with 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighters.

On 22 April, WestJet operated its first freighter service, which will complement belly operations.

Signing the contract at the air cargo Europe trade fair in Munich, Jettainer will continue to manage and maintain WestJet’s ULD fleet and provide additional main deck containers for the new freighter services.

Jettainer provides WestJet with a fleet of more than 1,000 containers and pallets for baggage and freight, predominantly consisting of AKE units and the fleet has been expanded to include freighter specific main deck containers.

Kirsten De Bruijn, Executive Vice President Cargo at WestJet, says that Jettainer has been a trusted provider for 8 years and even during Covid and post-pandemic, WestJet could always rely on Jettainer to provide the required number of ULDs.

She says, “Outsourcing ULD management allows us to fully focus on cargo sales, knowing that we have a competent partner taking care of our growing container and pallet needs. As we now launch and scale up our cargo division, Jettainer’s niche expertise will play a key role in our development. We look forward to many more years of successful partnership.”

Kothari Shailendar, Managing Director of Jettainer Americas, adds, “We could not be prouder of the trust expressed through this renewed contract extension. Our long-standing partnership with WestJet is a prime example of how we focus on our customers’ individual needs. Our dedicated teams, openness to innovation, and the highest level of transparency help companies be successful in the long term. We are very much looking forward to accompanying WestJet in realising its ambitious development plans.”
