The shipment of 100 houses donated by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to provide relief following the floods in Rio Grande do Sul were flown from Bogota, Colombia free of charge to Sao Paulo so they could be sent where they are needed.
The 16 ton shipment is the first 100 of 200 houses that will provide temporary accommodation for families affected by the floods.
Since 4 May, LATAM’s Solidarity Plane programme has transported 142 tons of donations, free of charge, including food, water and other essential items, and 102 volunteers to southern Brazil to provide assistance following the floods.
The aid has flown on commercial flights to regional airports and on special flights to the Canoas Air Base with donations coming from countries including Portugal and the USA.
