LATAM flies 24,000 tons of flowers for Mother's Day

LATAM Group airlines transported over 24,000 tons of flowers in time for Mother’s Day, a 20% increase over last year.

Over 21 days, LATAM transported the flowers from Colombia and Ecuador on more than 400 flights to destinations across South America, Europe, Australia and North America, with Miami serving as the point of arrival for 370 of the flights.

From Colombia, more than 13,000 tons of flowers were transported on 222 flights from Bogota and Medellin, carrying species including roses, carnations and chrysanthemums.

In 2023, LATAM transported 40% of flower exports from Colombia to North America and is expecting similar results this year.

In Ecuador, flower exports almost doubled compared to last year with 189 departures from Quito carrying around 11,000 tons of flowers, mostly roses.

Claudio Torres Faini, Commercial Director of South America at LATAM Cargo Chile, says, “With over 300,000 jobs generated by floriculture in Colombia and Ecuador, we assume the enormous responsibility of transporting their flowers to global destinations in optimal conditions. Our goal is for every person who receives one of these flowers to feel its freshness as if it were just cut on the farm where it was grown.”
