Maersk prepares to launch US-Korea services

A.P. Moller – Maersk will operate the inaugural flight of its new airfreight service between the US and Korea on Monday (31 October).

The first flight of Maersk Air Cargo will fly between Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport and Incheon International Airport in Seoul using a Boeing 767-300 Freighter.

The twice-weekly service will be operated by Miami-headquartered Amerijet International.

Michel Pozas Lucic, Global Head of Air & LCL at A.P. Moller – Maersk, says, “Back in April, we announced the launch of Maersk Air Cargo as our integrated in-house air cargo carrier. With the introduction of this new service between the U.S. and Korea, we have taken the next step in securing logistics solutions for our customers with our own aircrafts. Next to the new scheduled transpacific flights, we also operate own controlled capacity from Europe into the US, Mexico, South Africa, and Singapore.”

Maersk’s service is the first scheduled service between the state of South Carolina and Asia, and is expected to significantly increase access for trade between Asia, South Carolina and the entire southeast US.

The Greenville flights are the second recent US expansion following the opening of Maersk’s Chicago Air Freight Gateway, adding supply chain integration for customers using Chicago O’Hare and Rockford airports.
