Maersk to acquire Senator as it looks to expand air network

Freight Forwarding
A.P. Moller-Maersk will acquire Senator International Freight Forwarding Group as it looks to expand its airfreight network in a deal worth $644m.

Maersk says it intends to offer an integrated network and the existing airfreight products of the two companies will complement each other, and capacity will increase for all forms of cargo.

It aims to have one third of its air capacity under its own control through building and operating a global cargo flight network, combining its own capacity with charter flights.

Tim-Oliver Kirschbaum, CEO of Senator says: “By joining Maersk, we strongly believe that we will be able to deliver an even broader portfolio with own controlled air capacity as well as also in other modes of transportation. Senator’s customers and team will love it.”

Vincent Clerc, CEO of Maersk Ocean and Logistics says: “Senator is a strong strategic fit to our existing air offering, adding the key capabilities, network and scale needed to provide our customers the opportunity to realise the upside of a fully integrated supply chain across ocean, air, rail and landside.”
