Backed by private investment funds managed by Fortress Investment Group and its affiliates, Mammoth has launched its Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) development programme with the plan of receiving Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval in 2023.
Mammoth’s business model offers customers the option to provide their own assets for conversion or acquire or lease ready-to-fly converted freighters from Mammoth’s feedstock of ten 777-200LR GE90-110B1 equipped aircraft it acquired from Delta Air Lines.
It has a Boeing data licence for 777 passenger-to-freighter conversions, and says design and engineering for the 777-200LRMF programme is underway with tooling and parts already in fabrication.
Pre-modification flight tests have been completed and modification will start in the second quarter of 2022.
Following certification for the 777-200LRMF, approval of the 777-300ERMF STC is expected to follow shortly afterwards.
Bill Tarpley, who is co-CEO with Bill Wagner, says 777 conversions have a bright future replacing 747-400s and MD-11s.
He says: “With our modern design and existing feedstock of ten aircraft, Mammoth will provide express, e-commerce, and general freight operators with highly affordable, flexible, and purpose-built 777 freighters that burn less fuel and emit less carbon than the current freighter fleets.”
