NE:ONE Play app wins IATA FACE-UP 2024 award

Erik Goldenstein of Fraunhofer IML has won the IATA FACE-UP 2024 award for his role creating the NE:ONE Play app built on the ONE Record Data Standard.

He was voted the winner by attendees of the closing plenary at the IATA World Cargo Symposium in Hong Kong on Thursday 14 March.

The app provides a visualisation of ONE Record data giving a simplified overview of complex air cargo data, allowing organisations to browse through their shipment data as easily as browsing the web.

FACE-UP is a competition that provides recent university graduates with an opportunity to present their solution on addressing the challenges of the air cargo supply chain to industry executives.

Goldenstein is a research assistant, data scientist and software engineer in the Aviation Logistics department of Fraunhofer IML at Frankfurt Airport working on topics in aviation digitalisation.

Brendan Sullivan, Global Head of Cargo at IATA, says, “I congratulate Erik for an outstanding achievement. The biggest opportunity in air cargo is digitalisation and the key to this is the adoption of the ONE Record standard. It was great to see an innovation recognised that will help drive the implementation of this global standard for efficient data exchange throughout the supply chain.”

A senior panel of judges selected three finalists who made presentations at the WCS closing plenary and the audience voted for the winner.

The other finalists were Arjan Bhogal of Buckinghamshire New University in the United Kingdom for his innovation to reduce the use of single-use plastics and Niclas Scheiber Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences for his tool to manage complex ONE Record shipment data using advanced query technologies.
