Norwegian and UNICEF extend partnership until 2028

Norwegian has flown 7.2 tons of aid to Sierra Leone on the same day it extended its partnership with UNICEF until 2028.

The luggage compartment and cabin were filled with aid for children on the flight from Copenhagen.

It was the seventh time Norwegian has carried aid for UNICEF.

Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian, says, “This is the most important flight of the year. We are very proud of the partnership with UNICEF, and that we can use our resources to help deliver life-saving aid to children in need. This flight highlights how important aviation is, not only by connecting people, but by conducting critical supply deliveries all over the world.”

Maria Greenberg Bergheim, Secretary General of UNICEF Norway, adds, “This flight is not just a delivery of emergency aid, but a symbol of hope and solidarity in very unstable times. Norwegian has, through several years, been a driving force for children’s rights. They continue to make a very real difference for many children.”

Sierra Leone has experienced years of civil war, health crises, climate catastrophes and security problems.

Infrastructure is a major challenge, making it hard to deliver supplies and aid when crises occur.

In Sierra Leone, UNICEF works to care for women and newborns in the critical first weeks, to secure access to vaccines and clean water, and to give children an education and opportunity to go to school.

Norwegian has worked with UNICEF Norway since 2007 and raised almost 65 million NOK ($6.1 million) through activities with customers and employees.

In addition to the customer donations and employee contributions, Norwegian gives a yearly contribution and an extra donation instead of employee Christmas gifts.
